My Love for Art

Art was the first interest I ever personally developed. Starting with crayons before moving on to colored pencils, I'd always have a pack of Crayolas on my side. Now that I'm older, most of my art is digital, but I still have a soft spot for painting with friends whenever we get the chance.

Blue Jay in the Snow, acrylic on panel. Spring 2023This piece began as a Google Drawing before being replicated on canvas and painted. The background may be basic, but I take pride in how I captured the tail feathers and crevices of the neck.

Camping Under the Stars, acrylic on canvas. July 5, 2024While spending an afternoon with a friend, she pulled out her acrylics and we agreed to each paint a scene. Inspired by Glacier National Park, MT, I decided to pursue a flat design to express the incredible nature of the night sky above us. I had to redo the water once, explaining the disparate shade seeping through the otherwise flat cyan, and while this digitally stitched scan does not capture it, the stars of yellow and orange were to compliment a pink dot left by my friend's nose. She's wacky like that.

Lakefront Aurora, acrylic on panel. February 7, 2026Last night, that friend I mentioned above, upon being invited in, sprinted to my room. Obligated to give her a tour while also seeking to offload some unused art supplies, I opened the art drawer and got on the topic of acrylic paints. This canvas was laying dormant after the linework phase since last June, but after we gave our thoughts on what colors to use, I resolved to finish the artwork. The result is this — another mountainous lake scene, just like Camping Under the Stars above, but with a loose dynamic light display instead of a swirl. Many mistakes were made during the process, but much learning came forth from it. I am most excited by the actual aurora, achieved by using a flat brush sideways.

Swirls of Blue Ridge, paper quilling on cardstock. Spring 2023This one was recreated from a stock photo of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall. Truthfully, the most difficult part of the production of this piece was determining how to best approximate organic chapes with either swirls or paper-thin lines (as demonstrated by the barely-visible fence in the center-right).

"Modern" Art, marker on index. 2022?This piece was created to be a commentary on through Crayola Fine Line markers. Inspired after seeing a diabolically-priced print at Hobby Lobby, I decided to test and see if I could replicate it.

Fantastical Canyon, marker on index card. 2020/2021?This was a drawing I most likely made with my downtime during class. Capturing the spirit of voyaging was the intent, best exemplified by the minute ship among the scale of the pink- and orange-tipped mountains.
